Genetic Testing

How is it done?

I use Genomind for genetic testing. They provide detailed and accurate results, which I will break down and interpret for you.

Genomind's pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing analyzes a patient's DNA to help healthcare providers personalize treatment for mental health conditions. The testing involves a painless cheek swab that collects a DNA sample, which is then analyzed by certified lab technicians.

I will order your test through Genomind who will send a collection kit to your home. I will give you detailed instructions on how to collect the sample and when you have done this, you simply drop the sample in the mail with the pre-paid envelope provided.

What is genetic testing?

Pharmacogenetics is the study of how the body responds to various medications.

This testing identifies genetic variations that influence your response to psychotropic medications commonly used to treat a wide range of mental health conditions. Testing will show what medications you are more likely to have side effects from, medications that may be more effective, drug-specific metabolism information, and gene-drug interactions.

Psychotropic medications can produce a wide range of effects based on individual genetic makeup. This testing decreases uncertainty in psychotropics and facilitates personalized treatment.

This can be especially valuable for patients who have had multiple medication failures either due to inefficacy or intolerable side effects.
